SEO is not just one technique, if you focus on just one thing you will not get the full benefits of SEO and you risk losing everything if Google change their algorithm again. The search engines will act rapidly to penalize sites that contain viruses or trojans. The basic premise of the “less is more” mindset is simple. If you optimized your website for 100 different keywords, no more than 10 of them would ever drive significant traffic to your site (and of those, two or three would drive the lion’s share of the traffic). The other 90 keywords would give you little drips of traffic here and there but nothing more. Mobile traffic is important. People are searching and reading on their mobile devices more than ever. What does that mean for your copy? Do you need to write differently if you’re aiming at a ‘mobile’ audience? How do you tackle copywriting for mobile?

Cost should not be your only consideration

Companies of every size can implement at least one aspect of internet marketing that can boost their SEO efforts and see better rankings and more traffic. In SEO, having a decent ‘fresh’ rating doesn’t mean you’ve got a cool new pair of sneakers you want to show off. It’s the practice of updating your content, adding little tweaks to make sure it remains relevant. Expect increased conversions, particularly those from visitors who arrived via organic search. When dealing with search engines, the term ‘relevance‘ describes the extent to which the content of a website corresponds to the search term used.

Go ahead and call to action

Look at any forums, blogs, message boards or other chat services you might be using. In many of these environments, it is acceptable for users to give contact information and even drop links to their websites, as long as they do it in a certain way. Backlinks are links from outside domains that point to pages on your domain; essentially linking back from their domain to yours. If your site doesn't load properly on mobile platforms, then you're wasting your time with SEO. You need a site that's responsive. It needs to work properly on desktop and mobile, and it needs to load quickly. Take a look at which sites are currently winning the front page for the phrase you are hoping to win. Then, go ahead and link to a few of them within your own content. It can be within the body of the text, or you can include a few links at the bottom with a “More on This Subject” type of call to action (CTA). It may seem like this could lead eyes to a direct competitor, but don’t be afraid to break the mold and link to them anyway.

Subscribe to relevant blogs to get notified about the latest updates

External, or outbound, links indicate that you are well aware of the topics you’re writing about, to the extent that you’re ready to use further sources to support your content. It’s more useful to link to reputable sources, as these links have bigger credibility. Google Panda and Penguin stopped keyword stuffing in its tracks making it not just not ideal but counter productive. A fast website keeps the attention of site visitors and encourages them to browse the content; a page that loads slowly will often drive users away - perhaps toward your competitors. We asked an SEO Specialist, Gaz Hall, for his thoughts on the matter: "Though buying links may be a good marketing strategy, Google is on the lookout and cautions webmasters against attempting to manipulate the system."

Interview experts outside of your company

There’s no need to obsess over SEO throughout the whole content creation process, but getting into the SEO mindset can offer useful insights into how to make your content more effective from now on. Instead of looking for one-off guest blogging opportunities the entire time, look for opportunities that could win you regular contributions to a single blog or your own column. These links look very natural, you can get multiple high quality links a month, and if the blog has a decent audience, you'll send a bit of traffic through those links too. How do you work out the price of SEO packages? Before the Google Penguin and Google Panda were let loose, SEO’s could manipulate a webpage’s rank more easily by adding lots of keywords to show Google that the page was relevant. This practice is what we now call keyword stuffing and is not just frowned upon by reputable SEO agencies, but is not tolerated by Google.
